Folkmore Application
Aug. 28th, 2024 12:04 pm❥ Character Information
Character Name: Izuku Midoriya
Character Age: 16
Character Species: Human
Current Health: Described as 'covered in scars, blood, and mud,' not great bob.
Outfit: Here, but he can push down that mask so he's less, uh. Scary. He's wearing a set of really filthy civilian clothes underneath.
Character Canon: My Hero Academia
Link to History: Boop. Short version; what if you took a sweet kid, bullied for most of his life and wanting to do nothing but protect other people, and gave him powers? Great. The powers also give him more trauma. Good thing there's a lot of found family to go around to help with that!
Canon Point: Chapter 317 - he's working on his own, previously supported by All-Might (feeding and trying to keep him alive), supporting the remaining big three heroes to find and take down the League of Villains. He's just taken on Nagant, and now has rejected All-Might's help.
Canon Iteration: Original canon
Canon Iteration Explanation: This is going to be a Stepford Smiley Izuku, because at least in Folkmore he is convinced all of his home's Problems can be dealt with Later, once he gets back to them. He doesn't actually want to be alone - here, he's free to indulge. Right?

- Gearshift - change the speed/velocity of himself + anything he touches (letting himself move faster or increasing the force of something when it impacts, as examples)
- Fa Jin - store up kinetic energy by something repetitive, later then using that energy all at once in an explosive burst
- Danger Sense - what it says on the tin. Stabby feeling in his head to let him know Bad Shit is coming.
- Blackwhip - gives this boy some range. Lets him capture people, grab stuff, and knock things away. Kind of like Eraserhead's capture scarf, but "evil"-looking.
- Smokescreen - bamph, purple smoke, now you can't see him.
- Float - lets him float in mid-air, which combined with his other skills (kicking off of things) lets him fly around. Best I can determine, the Float quirk on its own doesn't propel him.
Role: Legend
Role Qualities/Attributes: Izuku will get tiny, little green wings which will expand in size based on how much power in One for All he's channeling at that particular moment. Most of the time they're going to be cute little fluffy things. He's also going to be able to sense when others are in danger, not just himself, though this will be more of a tingly feeling than a stab-in-the-head feeling.
Role Reasoning: Izuku has wanted to be a hero since he was a very, very small boy. He feels empathy for other people, even bad people, when they're victims and powerless, when they're hurt and afraid. He will sacrifice his own health, sanity, and happiness in order to help those people. And, even though he is not willing to back down on his own morals - he is often someone who will defer to people in charge/people he looks up to. Izuku is mostly a rule-follower, save when he sees people in need of help - and then, tries to learn how to follow the rules/the guidelines of authority while accomplishing what he wants to do (helping people). Even at this most Myth-ish canon point, he's doing it to restore order for others.
❥ Personality
Izuku is a very forgiving hero, and will do a lot to go out of his way to help someone else - even if they've hurt him and others in the past. This is certainly the case with his lifelong ... not really a friendship until later relationship with Katsuki Bakugo, who had relentlessly bullied him and taunted him since Izuku was proven to be Quirkless. But it's also the case with Tomura, who is clearly bloodthirsty and explicitly wants to destroy the world just for the sake of doing so. The fact that Tomura as the motivation and ability to kill countless people doesn't matter - Izuku can understand he was once just a hurt, lonely kid, and wants to help him.
Given this, he would be less inclined to forgiveness if he somehow can't relate to the villain he's facing. As an example, it seems more difficult for him to understand All for One, since from what he's discovered from the others who had held One for All, he's certainly an All Take and No Give kind of personality. Yet even so, it should be noted that 'forgiveness' doesn't mean he won't try to stop people like Tomura from harming others. He just wants to save him in the process.
I think once, before the canon events, Izuku would've definitely written 'BEING QUIRKLESS' in all caps and underlined three times. However, it's the case by the end of his story - and even, I'd argue, at his current point - that he appreciates the experience being quirkless gave him, especially before acquiring One for All.
Izuku knows what it's like to be powerless, helpless, a victim. He knows what it's like for people to hate you for something he couldn't control and couldn't fix. He knows how it feels to be shunned by other people for who you are, and all of these he still carries with him even now that he has such control of his gifted quirk, One for All.
That perspective informs Izuku on how to be a hero, it gives him strength and his determination to save everyone. It's not just something Izuku recognizes - it's also something others have seen in him, such as All Might.
If having a quirk at birth meant he wouldn't have that perspective? Izuku knows he'd be a poorer hero for it, so he would definitely pass - even if it lead to him suffering before.
Izuku definitely seems to be the most settled and happy when he's with his friends. It doesn't have to be any particular set of friends - from Uraraka to Ida to Bakugo even, if he's with people he trusts and likes, he's much clearly happier. Bullied for most of his life, when he's actually with people who like him and want him around, he seems to blossom and become far more confidant.
It should be noted, then, that his current canon point is where he has willingly given up his safe space, choosing to sacrifice this in order to try and help protect his friends and strangers alike. Izuku is miserable like this but he'll do it if necessary - and he thinks this is necessary to be alone.
What Izuku will not sacrifice is other people - and he won't write others off as people he can't save, either. What he will sacrifice is anything and everything about himself that he can give.
His health? Both physical and mental? Check and check, he's already beaten himself to hell and back, to the point where he'd been warned that much further damage to his arms would cause him to lose them. And he is currently sacrificing more of his own sanity and mental well-being by shutting out others and rejecting the help of even adults like All-Might in order to try to protect them.
This also means he is possibly sacrificing his relationships - he does imagine that this could hurt his friends, and his mother, by keeping himself at a distance. And I'm certain Izuku knows that if he should die, that they'd be saddened by it. These things do not make him happy, but Izuku is trying to do everything he can to help others.
He doesn't matter in that equation.
